Who is the sponsor of Beacon Hill at Eastgate?
Beacon Hill at Eastgate (BHE) is the new name of Michigan Christian Home (MCH). MCH has a forty seven year history of providing the highest quality of service and care to the elder population of Grand Rapids.
Where is Beacon Hill at Eastgate to be located?
The new complex will be located at 1919 Boston Street SE, adjacent to our existing campus at 1845 Boston. The site is currently occupied by Metro Health Hospital.
Our information center is located at 1801 Breton Road. We welcome you to stop by and learn about our exciting plans.
How many residences are planned for the new construction?
Our initial plan calls for 114 residential apartment homes on three floors in 2 wings. Additionally, there will be 36 Assisted Living Residences and 24 Memory Support Suites included. The residential and assisted living wings are anchored by a community center incorporating multiple restaurant style dining venues, a wellness center w/ pool, art studio, chapel, and activity spaces.
How big are the apartment homes?
The size of apartment homes will range from 735 square feet to a little over 1600 square feet, based on location and floor plan within the building. One bedroom, one bedroom w/ den, and several 2 bedroom models will be available to choose from.
What are the costs for these homes?
For specific information we invite you to contact a marketing representative at our Information Center.
Is this a rental community, or do I buy my apartment?
The financial investment plan for Beacon Hill is sometimes referred to as a “Life-lease” or an “Entrance fee” model. It includes a one time lump-sum payment up front, as well as an ongoing monthly fee.
There are several advantages for the resident built into this financing model, including:
- A refund of the entrance fee, to a maximum of 100% depending upon the refundability option chosen.
- Access to restaurant style dining, transportation, a health club, and a broad range of activities and social opportunities.
- All inclusive, maintenance free living, with all utilities (excluding telephone), dining services, and amenities included.
- Priority access to health care services including Assisted Living, Respite, Rehabilitation, and Skilled Nursing. Additionally, residents receive 60 included health care days* and a 10% discount on health care service fees.
What will happen to the existing Michigan Christian Home buildings, once this new development opens?
Initially, there will be no significant changes to our existing facility. Our organization has a long term plan for the future of the property that may include replacing the existing building. However, there are no immediate plans for that at present.
What makes Beacon Hill at Eastgate different from other retirement communities in Grand Rapids?
We believe that there are many distinctives that set Beacon Hill at Eastgate apart from our competition. Some of those include:
- History & Reputation: Beacon Hill at Eastgate is a well established and highly respected provider of elder care services in Grand Rapids. This community has been drawn to high quality service and care we provided for the past 47 years.
- Legacy: The organization’s commitment to its Christian faith based heritage is the foundation of our approach toward providing the highest quality lifestyle possible. We seek to embrace each resident individually, through services and amenities designed specifically for their social, spiritual, physical, and emotional needs and desires. Our approach is also welcoming and inclusive of all who wish to call Beacon Hill at Eastgate home.
- Location: Beacon Hill at Eastgate will be the only CCRC provider in Grand Rapids located in an established residential neighborhood. Our close proximity to the Breton Village Shopping Center, Gaslight Village, and Reed’s Lake, as well as close access to downtown Grand Rapids are all significant advantages. Being located in the Eastgate neighborhood provides a win/win situation for our organization to serve as an anchor in the community, and is clearly the best possible use of the existing Metro Health Hospital site for all concerned.
What is the timeframe for the project?
Pre-marketing for the project has already begun. According to Metro Health, the hospital is scheduled to move in September of 2007, and demolition of the existing building will begin shortly thereafter. Construction of Beacon Hill at Eastgate will take approximately 18 months. The campus is scheduled to open for residents in September of 2009.
